The primary purpose of the Movement and Maneuver function is to achieve and maintain contact with the enemy. This aspect is critical in military operations as it allows units to engage the enemy effectively, assess their movements, and adapt tactics accordingly. Establishing contact helps in understanding the enemy's capabilities and intentions, enabling commanders to make informed decisions about offensive and defensive maneuvers.

Maintaining contact with the enemy provides a tactical advantage, allowing forces to position themselves effectively and respond dynamically to changing battlefield conditions. This capability is essential for successful operations, as it directly impacts the ability to execute planned maneuvers and adjust strategies based on real-time intelligence about enemy activity.

In contrast, while logistical support, intelligence gathering, and preparing defensive positions are important functions in military operations, they are secondary in the context of Movement and Maneuver. These functions often support the overarching goal of contact with the enemy but do not encapsulate the primary focus of the Movement and Maneuver function itself.
